I studied Printed Textiles and Embroidery at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee and after gaining my PGCE, taught Art in various schools, latterly for sixteen years in two off-site behavioural support units in Dundee. For almost ten years I taught in the Design department at Dundee FE College where I was sole tutor for the City & Guilds Stitched Textiles courses as well as working with HNC/D Textile and Fashion students. When I left Dundee College in 2012 I became an independent C&G tutor for four years but now restrict my teaching to day schools and workshops.

I was an original member of the group Embryo, Dundee Textile Artists formed in 1980 by graduate students of DoJCAD partly as a response to the lack of opportunity for professional artists of stitched textiles to exhibit and during its 20-year existence participated in nearly every exhibition. Since the inception in 2000 of edge – textile artists scotland I have exhibited with the group on a regular basis. I have several pieces of commissioned work in Scotland and have given illustrated talks on my own work as well as other aspects of textile art to various groups including Embroiderers’ Guild branches. In 2013 I joined the Textile Study Group and have exhibited with them both in the UK and Europe.

Over the last few years my background in printed textiles has been revived as I have been exploring the textural qualities that can be achieved as a basis and surface for stitch. I am continually excited by developments in the field of textiles and enjoy working with like-minded people. I continue to enjoy teaching and derive enormous satisfaction from encouraging students to achieve.
